After meeting in the car park at Otter Nursery (they had kindly given us permission to park our cars there) 21 of us set out in sunshine to find the mud in Spriddlestone. We did.

Next we walked through Hollacombe and Wembury Woods, where we took our coffee break. Then up to Knighton and down past the Alms Houses to the Barton Farm corner. Here Anne and John left to ensure they met visitors arriving by train, Mel going with them, while the rest of us headed down to Rocket Cottage and the coast path. We had lunch under greyer threatening skies at Wembury beach.

Next we went up Churchwood Valley to Ford before going up and over to Train  e Road and down through Hollacombe Brake and the return trip through Spriddlestone. The usual discrepancies from GPS users gave the distance as between 9.2 and 10.2 miles against my estimate of 9.5 beforehand. I gave myself a tick. It was a longer walk than usual with thick mud in places – I hope that Richard, who joined us for the first time, was not put off!
