Pickleball is a racket sport; a hybrid of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, played on a badminton-sized court with a lower net. It’s played with solid ‘paddles’ (like large table-tennis bats) and a perforated plastic ball. It’s suitable for all ages, good exercise but not overly strenuous.  It has its own set of rules, and games are usually played to 11 points, either as singles or doubles. You can see an introductory video here: Pickleball Intro

Our Pickleball group started in July 2025 and we now play twice a month at the South Devon Tennis Centre (SDTC) in Ivybridge and twice a month at the Students Union Gym in central Plymouth. Members pay £3 each for a 1-hour session to cover the cost of hiring the courts. If you’re interested to know more, please get in touch with the group leaders (Roger Coggan and John Grady) via email to: plymU3Apickleball@gmail.com

You might also be interested in the free ‘taster sessions’ at the SDTC every Wednesday (6-7pm). They provide all the equipment and have a qualified coach. You need to book on-line or ring them to reserve a place. See their website for further info: SDLT Pickleball
